Why this charcoal

What makes Namibia Acacia worth it

Very high heat

Ideal for searing steaks and pizza.

Dense, so it burns hotter

Denser than our Lumpwood: it takes a little longer to get going, then burns hotter and steady through long cooks.

Mild, clean aroma

Won’t overpower your food. 100% natural acacia charcoal – no chemicals or binders.

Namibian encroacher bush

Made from black thorn and sickle bush – fast-spreading bush that Namibian farmers clear to restore grazing land (supplier-stated).

No surprises

How to use it in your kamado

1

Light it

Use natural wool lighters or an electric starter. Never use lighter fluid or chemical firelighters in a ceramic kamado – the ceramic soaks up the smell.

2

Use the right amount

For low and slow, fill the fire box to the top. For a quick grill, a smaller amount is enough. Keep the lid open while lighting and let the fire settle before you cook.

3

Use it again

Close both vents and the fire goes out. Next time, stir the old coals so the ash drops through, then top up with fresh charcoal. Store bags somewhere dry.

Safety first

Never use a lit or cooling barbecue in a tent, caravan, garage or any enclosed space. Charcoal gives off carbon monoxide for hours after it goes out.

Questions before you buy

Which charcoal should I choose?
Lumpwood lights quickly and responds fast to the vents – great for everyday grilling. Namibia Acacia is denser: it takes a little longer to heat up, then burns hotter – best for searing and pizza. For low and slow, both work well. Many customers keep a bag of each.
Does it spark or pop?
A little popping while lighting is normal. It mostly comes from moisture inside the lumps. Keep the lid open while lighting, let the fire settle before cooking, and store bags somewhere dry.
How should I light it?
Use natural wool lighters or an electric starter. Never use lighter fluid or chemical firelighters in a ceramic kamado, because the ceramic soaks up the smell.
How much charcoal do I use?
For low and slow, fill the fire box to the top. For a quick grill, a smaller amount is enough.
Can I reuse leftover charcoal?
Yes. Close both vents and the fire goes out. Next time, stir the old coals so the ash drops through, then top up with fresh charcoal.
Lumpwood or briquettes for a kamado?
Lumpwood. It lights faster, makes less ash and has no binders, so it suits a kamado’s small ash space.
What size are the lumps?
The pieces are smaller than our Lumpwood, but much denser – so it takes a little longer to get going and then burns hotter. Sizes vary naturally, and some breakage in transit is normal.
Do I save if I buy more bags?
Not while this sale is on – the sale price already applies to every bag. Outside sales: 10% off from 2 bags, rising to 20% off from 10 bags (Lumpwood and Namibia Acacia bags count together).
When will it arrive?
Order by 1pm on a working day and we dispatch the same day. Free delivery on orders over £50 to most mainland UK postcodes. Delivery terms
Is it safe to use in a tent or garage?
No. Never use a lit or cooling barbecue in a tent, caravan, garage or any enclosed space. Charcoal gives off carbon monoxide for hours after it goes out.

The charcoal gives a good smokey taste, it can burn long and slow if that's what you want or give it more air and grill or sear your food. The lighters with well.
